The Opala was presented to the Brazilian public at the 1968 edition of the São Paulo Motor Show.
Its bodywork was inspired by the German Opel Rekord, but with the style and mechanics of the North American Chevy Impala, which led the manufacturer to name it with the acronym Opala (Opel+Impala).
He was quickly accepted by the public, becoming an established model.
